The Impossible House: A Cliffside Escape on Bingin Beach

Ins and outs: the Impossible House is a secluded, off-grid retreat built into the cliffs of Bingin Beach, offering direct beach access and panoramic ocean views. With its open-air layout and minimal footprint, the house is designed to blend into the cliffs, offering a true experience with uninterrupted views and a direct connection to the natural elements.

Location: perched on the cliffs of Bingin Beach in Uluwatu, Bali, the Impossible House is only accessible by foot, with a steep staircase leading down to the sand. Bingin is known for its consistent surf breaks, casual beach cafés, and relaxed atmosphere. Getting to the house will require some fitness but will be rewarded as soon as you set foot in this Robinson Crusoe hideaway.

Rooms: the house is constructed using reclaimed wood and traditional materials, featuring open spaces, wooden shutters, and minimal furnishings that blend with the coastal setting. Bedrooms have mosquito-netted beds, and the open-air bathrooms provide a raw yet comfortable experience. There are four bedrooms in the house, one with an ensuite and one as a separate little beach house built on the rock overlooking the ocean.

Food and Drinks: the house includes a basic kitchen for self-catering, and guests can stock up on groceries from nearby stores. The team can cook up traditional meals served on the deck. Bingin Beach, only accessible at low tide, offers several dining options, including seafood barbecues, smoothie cafés, and casual warungs serving Indonesian dishes.

Care: built with sustainability in mind, the house follows an eco-conscious approach, using only natural and reclaimed materials. As part of Island Houses, it encourages a low-impact lifestyle with minimal energy consumption and a deep connection to the natural environment.

Unseen
: the cliffs around the house are home to long-tailed macaques, often seen moving through the trees or exploring the area. As the monkeys are known for their curiosity, boxes and locks are provided to keep your belongings out of their hands, so you can just enjoy watching the wildlife moving past the house.
